I hate to abandon hope,
But when it becomes obvious
What I am hoping for
Is not going to happen,
Maybe the hope is misguided
And giving up is the right thing to do.
Still, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth,
Letting a dream die,
To turn my back on its wimpering.
But isn’t that what I’m supposed to do
When I am misguided in my beliefs,
When I’ve placed my hope in the wrong thing?
Isn’t turning around the thing to do,
Look for hope in another direction?
