I watched the movie Lincoln last night
Where Abe reasoned and schemed with,
Bribed and bullied his fellow politicians,
Just like they do now-a-days,
To get his own way,
Except he was leading the Republican Party
For the good of the country
For the good of humanity
In the name of equality
And I wonder what todays Republican’s
Explanation to themselves is
About how they got from there to here
Having completely lost the minority vote?
And what the democrats think
Of still being more concerned
With preserving the status quo
Than anything else?
And I wonder what they think about
What the rest of us think
About what they’ve come to?
I only know what I think
And I’m pretty sure they don’t want to know.
